The Land Leviathan: A New Scientific Romance by Michael Moorcock ratings, average rating, 51 reviews The Land Leviathan Quotes Showing of 4 “Man can live by bread alone when all his energies are devoted to attaining that bread, but once his mind is clear, once he has ceased to labour through all his waking hours to find food, then he begins to think.”. The Land Leviathan continues the story begun in The Warlord of the Air and concluded in The Steel Tsar. Synopsis: Michael Moorcock's grandfather (Michael, also), goes searching for further word of the adventures of Oswald Bastable. He finds a beatiful valley in China where Una Persson, Bastable's ally from the first book, resides. The Land Leviathan: A New Scientific Romance is a direct sequel to The Warlord of the Air and contrary to opinions expressed in other reviews, I think you have to read that one first. The Oswald Bastable-series is where politics meets SF and Michael Moorcock uses these books to express his views and interpretations of ideas and ideologies. This second volume deals exclusively with racism and nationalism - a little too ham-fisted for my taste.
